Attempt to revive LJ #8342
Jul. 15th, 2010 12:49 pmSeeing as I've begun working on fanfiction again (Joey specifically). This may be a good chance to get in the better habit of writing more in general.
So naturally, instead of working on the next chapter or cleaning up the apartment for our weekend visitor, I was window-shopping for a new gaming headset. Mike and I both share one crappy and one not-as-crappy headset for computer/gaming use, both of which technically belong to him. The truly crappy pair has finally died (good riddance!), so we're down to one semi-broken but functional headset between the two of us playing TF2 daily (gotta grind those new Engineer achievements). But good news! That means I get to shop for my own pair!
So I envisioned hunting down a cute/awesome pair of my own. Except being a girl with some modicum of taste, I was horrified to find that most headsets were black, black, and more black! Mike, of course, laughed at me. Even Skullcandy had much less than impressive designs for their gaming headset line. I settled on the Creative Labs HS-800 Fatal1ty Gaming Headset as the least terrible option. But then I decided to take another look at the glorious Astro Gaming Cross-Gaming A30...
Now I'm a complete sucker for the idea of customizable speaker tags alone... And I really like the design and the slight retro feel of the white pair. But now they're also on sale too, down from $145.95 to $99.95! I would take an Astro over a Tritton in a heartbeat. >.<
To buy or not to buy?
P.S. Track 9 of Joey forthcoming tonight or tomorrow or sometime this weekend or next week...

on 2010-08-03 07:40 pm (UTC)The game is not subscription based. You just pay one-time and it's yours forever. The game has a number of great things going for it that makes me love it:
1) It's constantly being updated even though the game is two years old. We had a big major class update last month and it probably won't be the last.
2) The sense of humor in the game itself is absolutely wonderful, just watch some of the "Meet the" videos (http://www.teamfortress.com/movies.htm).
3) Its sense of community and overall civility is really great compared to many other FPS (not to say there aren't never any jerks). This is especially true once you find specific servers you like playing on.
4) There's a lot of different classes to play that can appeal to almost anyone's play-style. And it has a great entry level class: the Medic. It's the best class to get a feel of the game without having to feel the pressure to get a lot of kills. Because even a beginner Medic that does some amount of healing is useful to a team than not having one at all.
Haha, I think I'm done trying to sell the game now. But if you are interested, keep an eye for free-play weekends. They're not too frequent, but they do come up once in a while and usually along with major updates. All you have to do is download the game and you can try it for free all weekend!

on 2010-08-04 03:20 am (UTC)I always find that FPS's (at least the one where you play against someone) are way too hardcore for me. I used to play WoW and did PvE...
