alectoperditaSo I'm off to Shanghai next week. All my plane tickets and documents are in order. I don't expect to have to bring much. Other than that, I think I'm good on the most part.
I'm terribly excited to be going abroad this summer. This will be my first time abroad without family to look after me. There are at least another 25 people in the same program as me and we're all students from CMU. I already know a few of the people so I have an idea of the people I'm going to be most likely spending time with.
There are definitely other problems being a number of time zones away. God knows I'm terrible at keeping in touch by just being 300 miles away. Now I'm going to be half a world away from people I'll miss terribly and will want to talk to regularly. Thank god, there's Skype. I'll hopefully be getting a webcam in the next two days. It's a meager substitute for the real thing, but it'll have to do. There's still AIM, I suppose. At least I hope I can still connect to AIM from China. My dorm will have regular internet access from the rooms. Being at CMU has definitely spoiled me in terms of technological commodity.
Hell, being in America has definitely spoiled me. While I may still have regular access over in China, I won't be able to access a lot of other things still. BBC News (my preferred news source of choice) is blocked. Livejournal is blocked. Blogger is blocked. Vox is blocked. Even Xanga is blocked. So that essentially means almost no blogging for me. And this is the sort of experience I would like to write about. I guess I'll just do it the old fashioned way, journal and paper. Facebook, at the moment at least, is still available.
Well, it's only two months... It's only two months away from the states. Only two months away... Or so I'll keep telling myself that.
