Dell Latitudes have relatively the same tech specs as the Thinkpad T series. While the T series functions slightly better, they're more expensive when you calculate the necessary peripheries. They're also being produced by Levano in China now, so...
As for harddrive failures, I have had about one every year for the last four years I've had my current Hewatt Packard laptop. I had to pay a shitload for my insurance plan too, which has now expired. I really can't imagine anything more shitty than the one I currently have (probably a Compaq). I refuse to buy any laptop that doesn't offer accidental damage coverage for a few years.
