The NYC MTA's workers strike for the first time in 25 years!!!

You have got to be fucking kidding me! Sure, there's talk of a strike every few years when there's re-negotiations going on but... Why now?! *sob* Why couldn't they have striked when it was beneficial to me when I was still in high school? *mourns having to pay for a peak hour LIRR ticket for the ride home* Shit, I have to walk from Port Authority to Madison Square Garden? Do I know how to do that?

The high schoolers of NYC will hate me for this, but I sincerely hope this gets resolved by today/tomorrow...?

*rushes off to take programming final*

Honestly I was excited about the Transit Strike. :-) I stayed up late last night watching Channel 7. Though I am sorry about the bad timing for you and all, really.

I felt the same way. I was thinking... "Damn, first it was blizzards DURING winter vacation, and now this." On the plus side (I hope it's a plus side) you shouldn't have to leave your house much anyway since it's vacation. Besides that the last transit strike lasted 11 days back in 1980. At this point I would say that this'll be fortunate to go on for a week.

The TWU is being fined a million dollars a day for the strike. Total budget of the Local 100? 3.3 million dollars. I strongly support the workers here but I will say that this strike can't and won't go on for very long. So take heart. :-)
