Fleeing From Shadows
Companion Piece to Chasing Shadows?

It’s the hour before dawn.

The space we’re hiding in is cramped. Our flushed bodies are pressed together with rising and falling chests punctuated by shallow breathing.

Please don’t find us.

You stand still with your back against the collapsing wall. You grab my shoulders and hold me to still any movement. I turn my head slightly to look back.

The specter of a dark-robed figure appears just beyond our hiding place. A hint of blood-tainted white peeks out from under the hood.

I press my face into your thin shoulder and our callused hands grapple to hold each other.

I wrote this while riding the bus today. This drabble is brought to you by the movie, The Village, and M. Night Shyamalan. Don't ask. All and any reviews appreciated.

Beautiful. Perfect pacing for a drabble.

::does shameless M. Night Shyamalan fangirl dance::

I'd like to mention right here and now that Adrien Brody is a sexy bitch. Thank you.

Ah, yes, the drabble. Sorry, got distracted. Excellent writing, simply genius. I like this one even better than the last, which is surpising considering how much I adored that one. Perfect, superb, artful. The tension and fear that permeates this piece is ... just ... beyond words. Very claustrophobic ... wow. I am speechless. ::gibbers::

Might I add that he makes quite the convincing crazy guy as well? We seem to have things for blokes with big noses now that I think about it...

Lol. You can probably guess the atmosphere was inspired by the movie. That creature thing was pretty creepy.

I'm glad you like this piece.

"Might I add that he makes quite the convincing crazy guy as well? "

Well, he's an amazing actor. The Pianist was just brilliant...

"We seem to have things for blokes with big noses now that I think about it..."

Exactly! I realized a few years ago that all the gals and guys I thought were gorgeous had rather large noses. ::shrugs:: Couldn't tell you *WHY* it is I find that sexy ... ::shrugs::

"You can probably guess the atmosphere was inspired by the movie. That creature thing was pretty creepy."

Yes, it was, wasn't it? I loved that movie, did I mention that? It made me jump a fair few times, which is saying a bit since I've seen so many suspense movies that I'm rather desensitized.

>.<

I don't have the guts for horror/suspense movies, even the tamer American ones. The Asian ones I watched as a kid completely traumatized me to this day.

Yeah, I love Asian horror/suspense movies. I was never allowed to watch them as a child, so when I see them now I love them to pieces. Couldn't tell you why, either.

Ah, well, if it makes you feel any better, my friend Ami-chan has almost the same exactg problem. After I took her to see The Ring she felt compelled to sleep with the lights on, cuddling me and quite a few stuffed animals.

Not that I minded, of course.

The tension in this is a palpable thing; almost as if it will reach out and take hold of the reader.

My hat's off to you; even in a situation as potentially deadly as this, as tight and tense, you manage to pepper it with slashy undertones. Bravo. :)
