Long time...
God, it's such crap. Now there's a reminder why I stopped writing like nothing else in the world. But I'm bored out of my mind, putting off both homework and the cover letters for my resumes.
Anyway, there's something very wrong by the end of this thing. I haven't quite figured it out, not sure I really care to fix it anyway. Excuse me while I go wallow in the uselessness of my existence and maybe work on some psychology homework. *insert wangst* I think I'll sleep instead...
Oi, crap crossover ahead.
Rakan would probably scold him for wandering off later. The boy might even hit him. Chigusa could only hope so.
He trusted Shigeka Narushige to look after Rakan if nothing else.
Chigusa knew that house had not been there just a second ago. A empty lot did not suddenly change into a house with low slanting roof and a grassy front yard. His eyesight was too good to make such a mistake. He lowered his glasses and the world snapped back into place with startling clarity. Staring the space between the two fence posts, he could see the same sort of "bend" as the one in Rakan's garden. Was it another way back to his world?
The few other people passing through didn't spare the little house a second glance. The path of their sight moved directly from one building flanking its side to the next. Yet one boy that was Rakan's age and wearing a similar uniform stopped in front of the fence post when he saw Chigusa. The boy gave a heavy sigh and approached him.
Chigusa quickly categorized the boy as "harmless."
"You're here to see Yuuko-san, aren't you?" The boy asked.
"Yuuko...san?"
The boy began tapping one foot in aggravation and pointed an accusing finger behind him. "Well, you see that, don't you?"
Chigusa replaced the glasses and nodded.
"Come on in then."
He followed the boy through the opening in the fence. When he looked back, he could still see the street he was standing on a moment ago. The boy lead him up the stairs to where they were greeted by two little girls shouting and giggled, "Welcome back, Watanuki~! Welcome, Customer~!"
The boy called Watanuki sighed again as he waved them off and slipped out of his shoes. Each girl grabbed one of the Watanuki's arms and propelled him down the length of the hallway. They stopped in front of a set of sliding doors decorated with a crescent moon and smoky clouds. The boy threw open the doors to declare, "You have a customer, Yuuko-san."
Chigusa was first hit by the scent of overwhelming smoke and then the sight of a woman lazily lounging on the sofa. Her not-quite-kimono robe of teal green and water lilies was cut low, giving glimpses of an impressive bust. As she rolled her head toward them, her black hair fanned out in a way that reminded him of the tendrils that robbed his world of its nutrients.
"Dangerous," he immediately decided, but potentially "useful."
"Oi, Watanuki, get the good sake."
"What?" Watanuki screeched. "It's four in the afternoon and you have a guest right now!"
The woman waved her hand in a dismissive manner. "Don't be such a dull boy."
"Dull boy~!" The girls echoed in the background.
Watanuki gave a loud growl and stomped out of the room, leaving Chigusa alone with this woman. She moved to sit up in her seat- the folds of her robe rippled like water- and the girls gathered at her side like two perfect life-size dolls. The two with their dull eyes remained him of the puppet Ayame prince.
"Have a seat." She gestured to the pile of cushions a few feet away from her and chuckled as he sat down. "My, aren't you obedient?"
Chigusa pulled his rifle out of the bag and laid it across his lap. This was his warning. "Why am I here?"
"So quick to the point. Do you mean why are you here in my store? That is because of hitsuzen. Are you asking why did you come to this world? Surely, you must already know the answer to that, but that too is hitsuzen."
He was silent after her little speech. He had encountered numerous strange objects since he had come to this world. His current situation was no different. He doubted Rakan would have approved if he shot this Yuuko woman, even if she was "dangerous." There was only one way to understand her, and that was to ask.
"What are you then?"
She stared at him for a second before bursting into hysterical laughter. "Very good, very good!" she clapped her hands together. "If only my Watanuki was half as candid as you."
"Who's your?" Watanuki asked peevishly as he entered the room with a tray of cups and sake. A black animal of some sort was bouncing at his heel, singing a strange song about a rabbit and the moon.
Yuuko grabbed Watanuki's chin as he set a cup near her and she ran a hand down the side of his face. "You, of course. I own you after all."
Chigusa felt sorry for the boy as he squirmed to get away from the woman to pour the sake. The black ball grabbed a small cup and began to demand a share.
"Watanuki, don't forget to serve our guest. Your name?" She asked before throwing her head back to gulp down the alcohol.
"Senrou Chigusa."
Watanuki knelt down by his side and offered him a cup, while glancing suspiciously at the rifle resting on Chigusa's lap. He finally noticed how blue the boy's eyes were and how his manner resembled Rakan when he wasn't screeching at the top of his lungs.
She smiled benignly, but he wasn't fooled. "Try the sake, Senrou Chigusa. You can't get this where you're from. The important thing for you to know is this is a shop that grants wishes."
He pondered the strange concept as he took a slip of the liquid that he was sure would set him on fire.
"Only those that have the need can see or enter my shop," she continued, staring at him with eyes that bore through souls. "So what is your wish?"
He was caught off guard by the question. His wish? He didn't have wishes. There was simply his mission, which need to be completed- his mission to eliminate the false prince. He had the means to do so now. He had found the Sanome- he had found Rakan... He looked at her again.
She knew.
He cupped his chin and said, "I have to take him back, but I feel bad about doing that. I really like him. It'll hurt him if I force him to come with me, but I may have to. It's very troublesome."
She leaned forward, "So you wish for another to take back?"
He contemplated the floor for a few seconds. "Where can I find another Sanome?"
She shook her head and gave one of the girls a small sad smile. "I thought he would be smart enough to ask the right question. It's too bad I don't give free advice," she turned her attention back to him. "Very well, I will grant your wish, but you must repay me in kind."
"How?"
Yuuko pointed to the tote bag lying by his side. "The seeds in your bag, a few of each kind will be enough, and that other gun you won't be needing again."
"Is that really enough?" He asked as he watched the boy that was sort of like Rakan leave the room with a fistful of seeds wrapped in a handkerchief and the gun Rakan had grown during the attack earlier.
"Just think of it as trading several valuable plants for an extremely rare one," she smiled mysteriously. "It's time for you to leave now. Your friends are looking for you. Moro and Maru will show you out."
The two dolls leaped to their feet and were dragging him out of the room as soon as he grabbed his belongings. The woman waved happily to him and went to finish the sake as he crossed the room's threshold. They didn't let go of him until they were back at the entrance. They looked up at him with empty eyes for a few moments and squealed, "Thank you for your patronage~! ♥" They gave him a collective shove and propelled him back onto the sidewalk outside.
When he looked back, there was only an empty lot of overgrown weeds, and the bend in space was gone too. For the first time in a long while, Chigusa started to seriously doubt his sanity. Was it almost his time?
"Chigusa!" Rakan exclaimed as he ran up to him. "What did I tell you-"
The boy never got to finish his sentence when Chigusa pulled him into a tight hug. Seeing Rakan again after talking and thinking about the boy in that strange hour made Chigusa realize how much he had missed him. Despite what he had said to that Yuuko woman, he wanted only Rakan to be his Sanome prince. He stopped caring about whether or not his wish would be granted because Rakan was here now.
"Does he always do that?" Their captive from earlier in the afternoon, still wrapped in invisible vine, stared at the two.
Shigeka Narushige sighed and hung his head in defeat. "Do you think you can stop him?"
"What are you doing, Chigusa?" Rakan squirmed in his arms, but Chigusa tightened the embrace.
"Isn't this sexual harassment too?" Kou asked as he managed to transverse the space between Shigeka Narushige and them to wrap himself around Rakan's neck.
Their captive began muttering pervert over and over under his breath, a group of passing schoolgirls giggled at the show of gorgeous boys embracing, and Rakan made Chigusa carry all the groceries on the way home as punishment for causing a scene.
Anyway, there's something very wrong by the end of this thing. I haven't quite figured it out, not sure I really care to fix it anyway. Excuse me while I go wallow in the uselessness of my existence and maybe work on some psychology homework. *insert wangst* I think I'll sleep instead...
